 Our Beach Trip

My friend used to say, “You never know where your blessings are going to come from." Don't worry, this story has nothing to do with religion. Some people in the past has found using the word blessing in this type of content to be objectionable or offensive, At the risk of getting myself in trouble, I think I agree with him, especially after what happened on our beach trip. We were all 18 plus at the time this true story took place.

My sister Lisa's friend's boyfriend's brother, Tommy, showed up at my carefully planned beach trip without telling me and insisted on being a part of our trip while explaining he hoped it was okay since his brother had invited him. The car we planned on driving wouldn't hold all of us and our stuff so instead of being a dick (which was plan A) and telling him to fuck off, we drove two cars. Eric, his brother paid for gas as his punishment.

Lisa and Christi wouldn't ride separately, and Eric wanted to ride with Christi, so that left me with Tommy. A perfect stranger wearing an ugly ball cap climbed into my car with me. He was very excited because I had the coolest car he’s ever seen and he’s seen a lot of cars, apparently. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the four beers he'd consumed while we rearranged the cars.

We had been driving for maybe an hour, during which time Tommy told me all about his fitness regimen (involves staring at girls in yoga pants at the gym and occasionally lifting some free weights) or his mint condition (except for some rust) 1984 Ford something or other and the time he almost got backstage at a Coldplay concert, but he couldn't wait because he had to piss ("like a racehorse,") naturally.

I pulled into the first gas station I saw and sat in the car while Tommy went in to buy some things. I was enjoying the respite from the stream of slightly-drunken consciousness that I'd been subjected to for the last 75 or so miles. When Tommy climbed back in, he flashed his guns at me and stuck his tongue out at me. I almost asked him why did he do that but I decided against it because I didn't wanted him to stop talking. I had no such luck, quiet time lasted a total of 30 seconds.
